Umber has got her a new gift as of today. I have never bought a halter for a horse, and knew nothing of sizes and all that. But I knew that Umber is a 700 pound horse. I was very relieved to find out at the IFA that halters are labeled by weight, as well as “small,” “average,” and “large.” Happily, the small size is for 500 – 800 pounds. That made Umber a small! We picked up a nice tan halter and a black lead rope.
When we got it home and tried it on her, I was surprised to find out that my otherwise normally tame wife wanted to be the first to ride Umber bareback. Grandpa got a bareback-pad out of the tack room on the big horse trailer, and helped us strap it to Umber. Mrs. Peasant got on and rode Umber around a bit, though not without some effort as Mrs. P is not an experienced rider, and Umber seemed only to want to entertain the big male horse that belongs to Grandpa.
The halter served as a bridle and the lead served as a makeshift rein. After Mrs. Peasant rode around, one of the boys did too. I never did though, because there is some doubt still as to whether Umber can carry my weight or not, as I am a 200 pounder. Maybe she can, just fine, but I would rather not when there are larger horses to get around on for me.
The ducks are doing well so far, though we want to remove the rest of that old liner from the dough-boy swimming pool. That needs doing tomorrow, so the ground will dry under the ducks, and hopefully the smell will dissipate..!!
The chickens are very well, and everything there seems fine! I am really excited for April or so, when they are at the point of lay! It will be nice to have eggs every morning for whomever wants them!
I would love to get a chicken coop proper on the run, and increase the capacity and then the type of birds we have!
Things are getting together a bit around here, and it is genuinely getting exciting! Wonder what’s next? A Pig or a goat? How about a cow? That’s all for now!
